725,007. Atmospheric gas burners. PATROL VALVE CO. April 8, 1953, No. 9522/53. Class 75 (1). An atmospheric gas burner head has an imperforate top 12, Fig. 1, and a peripheral wall 14 provided with spaced outlet ports 20 each comprising three or more elongated narrow slots of the same uniform width radiating from a central opening of maximum transverse dimension substantially equal to the width of the slots. The perimeter of each port 20 expressed in inches ranges from twenty to fifty times its area expressed insquare inches, and the total area of the ports 20 expressed in square inches is approximately one-ninth to one-fourteenth of the periphery of the burner head expressed in inches. Each port 20 may be shaped as a Greek cross as illustrated or may be of Y shape. A screen 40, Fig. 2, for preventing flashback is mounted within the wall 14 and has a flange at its lower end held between a flange 15 of the wall 14 and a disc 26 secured to the burner mixing tube 25. The volume expressed in cubic inches the burner head between the disc 26 and the top 12 is substantially threesixteenths to one-eighth of the periphery of the head in inches. The flange 15 controls the flow of secondary air to the burner flames, and has a skirt 17 provided with bayonet slots 31 for engaging arms 28 on the mixing tube 25, to hold the burner head on the latter.
