Abstract

724,749. Clothes drying machines. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Aug. 20, 1953 [Aug. 20, 1952], No. 23010/53. Class 34 (2). A tumbler clothes drier with rotatable perforate drum 12 within a casing 11 comprising upper and lower sections 26, 27 through which air is circulated by rotation of the drum, the upper section having a heating chamber 30 with electric heaters 31 and the lower section having a condensing chamber 33 in which moisture and entrained lint are removed from the air by cold water sprayed on to a target 57 beneath a baffle 28 has flush devices 64, 65 which wash lint from the walls of the casing into the sump 38. A pump 40 removes condensate and lint from the sump and discharges to waste through valve 46 and drain 47 or recirculates the water via a conduit 48, the valve 46 being controlled by a solenoid 60 operated by the control mechanism controlling the cycle of operations of the machine. A hydrostatic switch controls the supply of water to the apparatus via a solenoid operated valve and prevents flooding of the sump if the dipscharge mechanism fails. In a modification the flush devices are fed with fresh water from the mains via controlled valves instead of the water recirculated from the sump. Specification 712,140 is referred to.
