Abstract
724,276. Pitot-tube apparatus. STURTEVANT ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., and WHITE, W. G. Sept. 26, 1952 [Sept. 28, 1951], No. 22694/51. Class 69 (1). An apparatus for measuring the velocity pressure or the rate of fluid flow in a duct comprises a plurality of pitot head jets, positioned on at least two differently directed transverse axes of the duct and connected to a common enclosed space, the pressure in which is therefore the average facing gauge reading. An apparatus for fitting into a fan testing tunnel comprises a short cylinder 10 having a pair of transverse header pipes 13, 16 which communicate at their ends with an annular conduit 20 on the outside of the cylinder. A plurality of pitot head facing jets 19 are welded to the header pipes and are positioned thereon at the points laid down in B.S.S. 848: 1939. An annular conduit 22 is also welded to the outside of the cylinder 10 and communicates with the inside of the cylinder by means of apertures 23. The conduits 20, 22 are connected to flow or pressure indicating or recording devices via cocks 21, 24 respectively. The cocks may also be connected to means for automatically controlling the velocity pressure or rate of flow. Straightener vanes may be built into the upstream end of the cylinder 10.
