724,240. Hedge-cutters; cutting lawn-edges. KNIGHT, G. H. F. Sept. 18, 1953. [Aug. 11, 1952] No. 20164/52. Class 6 (2). A clipper for hedges and tea-bushes comprises an operating head attached to a suction tube 1, the head consisting of upper and lower jaws 2, 3, pivoted together and having straight shearing edges 7 co-operating to sever the leaves which are then removed by suction. The jaws may be operated manually or magnetically or by an electric motor mounted on the head (Fig. 4, not shown). As shown, the upper jaw is fixed and the lower jaw carries a stirrup 9 mounting a handle 8. The edges 7 may be parallel or mutually inclined in the manner of a guillotine. The device may be used for lawn-edging.
