Abstract
723,251. Prepayment gas meters. SMITH METERS, Ltd., and CHARLES, J. A. April 21, 1953 [April 21, 1952], No. 9998/52. Class 27. The shaft 7 connecting a gas meter 1 to prepayment mechanism 3 carries a toothed wheel 9 which, at each revolution of the crank spindle, is intermittently rotated through a small angle by an element associated with the crank spindle 6. The element may be the pivot pin 10 of the tangent arm 11, or an extension of the pin, or the extremity of the tangent arm, or a tooth-like proection either on the upper crank arm 12 or on an arm specially provided on the crank spindle. The shaft 7 may pass through a stuffing box 8 on the cover 2 and be parallel to or at an angle to the crank spindle for direct connection to the shaft for the worm 4 of the prepayment mechanism, or may be wholly within the cover and connected by bevel or worm gearing to a shaft extending through a stuffing box in the cover.
