Abstract

723,192. Collapsible cores for moulding concrete. ECROFNIER & PARTNERS, Ltd., [formerly BRITISH STEEL REINFORCEMENT CO., Ltd.]. June 9, 1953 [Nov. 26, 1952], No. 29916/52. Class 87 (2) A collapsible moulding core comprises top and bottom plates 10 and 11 and side plates 12 which have their edges turned downwardly and upwardly respectively to give an unbroken core face. A rod 13 runs through the centre of the core on bearings 14 attached to plate 11 and is movable axially with respect to the core by means of screw 13a in threaded bearing 14a at the end of the core. The plate 10 is drawn down by links 18 pivoted to collar 20 freely attached to rod 13 between fixed collars 21, forward movement of plate 10 being prevented by pins 15 extending into sockets 16 (not shown) in bearings 14. The plates 12 are similarly drawn together by links 23 pivoted to freely-attached collar 25 between fixed collars 26, forward movement of these plates being prevented by pins 27 engaged in sockets 28 in bearings 14. The members 12 collapse faster than 10 in order to avoid fouling. One or more cores may be attached end to end by means of spigot 31 on the inside of plate 11 engaging hole 33 (not shown) in projecting plate 32, the rods 13 engaging by means of flat dog 29 engaging transverse slot 30. The top, bottom and side plates may have holes of e.g. #in. diameter to counteract the effect of suction during collapsing; the cores may also be sheathed with rubber or waxed paper to facilitate withdrawal. The cores may be used in moulding, e.g. cement or asbestos cement.
