Abstract

722,734. Resilient couplings. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. March 27, 1953 [April 9, 1952]. No. 9071/52. Class 80 (2). A resilient coupling between a spider 20, fast on a vehicle axle 11, and a spider 29 secured to a gear wheel 13 geared to an electric axle-hung traction motor and journaled on a hollow quill 10 secured to the motor frame, comprises tangentially-disposed tie-bars 31 each of which is secured at its ends to the spiders through coaxial rubber sleeves 25 which allow circumferential displacement of the tie-bars, with the rubber stressed primarily in shear, and also allow tilting. Each rubber sleeve 25 is disposed between double-tapered sleeves 23, 24, the outer sleeve 24 being held in boss 22 or 30 on its spider by a screwed bush 26 and the inner sleeve 23 being secured to the tapered end of the tie-bar by a nut 31a. A rubber-faced disc 33 secured to each tie-bar between the bearings 22, 30 against a shoulder by a nut 34 limits the circumferential movement.
