721,990. Glass and like fibres. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. Dec. 23, 1953 [Dec. 24, 1952]. No. 32704/52. Drawings to Specification. Class 56. In the drawing of fibres of glass or other vitrifiable material by extrusion of the fused material through nozzles and subsequent attenuation, the supply is drawn from a source having the proper viscosity and which is surrounded or contained by vitrifiable material too viscous for drawing and which may, in fact, be actually solid. The proper viscosity of the supply is maintained by passing a current therethrough after preheating. By maintaining the nozzles at an appropriate temperature it is arranged that they become and remain lined with vitrifiable material which is too viscous for drawing and which prevents the low viscosity glass &c. from contacting the insides of the nozzles and from spreading from one nozzle to another.
