Abstract

721,686. Automatic speed-control systems. IGRANIC ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. Jan. 24, 1952 [Feb. 23, 1951], No. 1988/52. Class 38 (4). A D.C. motor 5, Fig. 1, of a Ward-Leonard set is supplied from a D.C. generator 1 driven by a three-phase motor 9 supplied from an A.C. source L<SP>1</SP>, L<SP>2</SP>, L<SP>3</SP>. Generator voltage and hence motor speed is controlled by a main generator field winding 10 supplied with D.C. from the A.C. source through rectifiers 16-19 and windings 14, 15 of a saturable reactor 13. The excitation of generator field winding 10 is automatically controlled by applying to a control winding 20 of saturable reactor 13 a first voltage, between a point X and the slider of a potentiometer 25, in opposition to a second voltage, between point X and the slider of a rheostat 21. The first voltage, being the addition of that portion of the generator voltage selected by the appropriately set potentiometer 25 and a voltage dependent on motor current developed across a resistor 24, is representative of motor speed. The second voltage is a reference voltage selected from the output of a rectifier 22 by rheostat 21 which serves to set the speed which the system is to maintain. A second generator field winding 11, energized from rectifier 22, provides constant weak opposition to field winding 10 so that the total field may be reduced to a lower level and a greater speed range obtained by operation of rheostat 21. A further control winding 26 on saturable reactor 13 provides an anti-hunt feedback dependent on rate of change of excitation of field winding 10. Another control winding 27 is energized in dependence on the voltage across resistor 24 to provide further compensation for armature volt-drop. Obtaining the voltage representative of motor speed from a tachometer generator and automatic regulation of the excitation of motor field 31 in dependence on field circuit voltage or tachometer generator voltage by means involving a magnetic amplifier are referred to.
