Abstract
The invention comprises dyes of the formula <FORM:0721283/IV (c)/1> wherein n is 1, 2, or 3, X is amino or alkylamino, and Y is hydrogen, acylamino, arylamino, or hydroxy. They are made by heating a glycol of the formula H(OCH2CH2)nOH p with an anthraquinone-2-carboxylic acid or halide thereof, already having X and Y in 1- and 4- positions or else having halogen or nitro in one or both of those positions which are replaced by X and Y by known methods. Dispersions of the products in water, dye cellulose acetate and polyethylene terephthalate. In examples, (1) 1-amino - 4 - hydroxyanthraquinone - 2 -carboxylic acid is reacted in presence of sulphuric acid with di- or tri-ethylene glycol, or its acid chloride is reacted with triethylene glycol without sulphuric acid; (2) 1-nitroanthraquinone-2-carboxylic acid chloride is heated with diethylene glycol and the product is reacted with isopropylamine in pyridine; (3) 1-amino-4-bromoanthraquinone - 2 - carboxylic acid chloride is heated with triethylene glycol, and the product is condensed with aniline; (4) 1-amino-4-nitroanthraquinone-2-carboxylic acid chloride is heated with diethylene glycol and the product is reduced with sodium sulphide; (5) 1-aminoanthraquinone - 2 - carboxylic acid is heated with triethylene glycol in presence of sulphuric acid; (6) 1-chloranthraquinone-2-carboxylic acid chloride is reacted with diethylene glycol and the product is condensed with ammonia.
