Abstract
Symmetrical di-(arylamino)-hydroxybenzenes are manufactured by heating one molecular proportion of phloroglucinol with about two molecular proportions of a non-nitrated arylamine in the presence of an aqueous solution of an alkali bisulphite. The products have in the form of their alkali salts a more or less great affinity for vegetable fibres and are intermediates for the preparation of dyestuffs. Examples describe the reaction of phloroglucinol with aniline, p-chloraniline, p-anisidine, o-, m- and p-toluidine, a - and b -naphthylamine, 2- and 3- methyl-1-methoxy-4-aminobenzene, 2 : 5-dichloro-p-phenylenediamine, m-xylidine (CH3 : CH3 : NH2=1 : 3 : 4) and 3 : 4-dichloraniline.
