Abstract
721,011. Valve accessories. GENERAL CERAMICS & STEATITE CORPORATION. June 25, 1953 [July 17, 1952], No. 17691/53. Class 135. In a valve for chemical fluids comprising a ground valve seat 14 in a casing of ceramic material and a valve stem 20 also of ceramic material, e.g. porcelain, movable on to the valve seat to obstruct the flow of fluid, the valve stem 20 at the end which co-operates with the valve seat is provided with a cap 24 of chemically resistant flexible material such as polymerzed tetrafluoroethylene and the cap is secured to thestem by a dowel pin 27 of the same material as the cap extending through a transverse opening 23 in the stem and into openings 25, 26 in the cap. The cap is fitted over a reduced end part 21 of the stem and engages a shoulder 22 on the stem, the outside surface of the cap being flush with the main part of the stem. The cap may alternatively be made of polymerized monochlorotrifluoroethylene or a silicone elastomer. The stem 20 is shown as operated by a screw 50 and is arranged in an " angle " casing having metal attaching means 30, 31 cemented thereto. A gland ring 44 for the packing 36, 37 is bolted to the flanged ring 40. An intermediate ring 45 may be arranged between the ring 44 and the packing.
