Abstract

939,999. Valves. TEXSTEAM CORPORATION. Nov. 27, 1961 [Nov. 25, 1960], No. 42365/61. Class 135. A plug valve comprises a body 15 having inlet and outlet passages 21, 23 communicating with a chamber having a plug 43 therein, sealing-rings 16, 17 in the passages each having an integral flexible lip 60 whereby a seal is effected between the lip of one sealing ring and the plug when the latter is in the closed position and acted upon by the controlled fluid pressure, a shoulder being provided in the passages to support and position the sealing rings and to effect a seal, as determined by the direction of flow through the valve, between one of the shoulders and its co-operating sealing ring. The plug 43 is provided on its upper face with a lug 56, Fig. 6, for engagement with a key formed on the end face of an actuating spindle 19, the latter being retained by a member 18, the plug being supported by a nylon member 48. The sealing- rings 16, 17 may be as shown in Fig. 10, formed of a body portion 61 of a thermal setting resin incorporating fibrous materials such as nylon, glass or plastics bonded together. The lip 60 may be made from polytetrafluoroethylene bonded to the body portion. Specification 939,998 is referred to.
