Abstract
720,453. Pit props. ZINDEL, W. Dec. 12, 1952 [Feb. 26. 1952], No. 31540/52. Class 20(2). A telescopic pit prop comprises a lower part 10, Fig. 2, of cruciform section and a tubular upper part 11 which rests on a clamping lock formed as an independent component adapted to be clamped in any position on the lower part 10, the lock comprising a conical clamping band 13 embracing angle section wedge pieces 12 which fit in the angles of the lower part 10. The ends of the band 13 are formed with outwardly turned lugs which are clamped together by nut and bolt, or by a tapered sleeve 24, Fig. 5 or 6, which engages over the lugs 22 and is moved downwardly or upwardly to tension or release the band 13 by means of wedges 25, 26, 26a, Fig. 5, or wedges 25a, 30, 31, Fig. 6. Rollers 36, Fig. 2, may be interposed between the edges of the wedges 12 and the band 13 to reduce the friction between the wedges and band.
