Abstract
720,123. Securing pulleys, gears, sprockets on shafts. ALLIS - CHALMERS. MANUFACTURING CO. Aug. 8, 1952 [March 6, 1952] No. 20012/52. Class 80 (2). An expanding pulley, gear, sprocket or coupling is secured on a cylindrical shaft 1 by a pair of concentric sleeves 2, 3, which interfit on a coned surface in which is jointly defined a keyway housing a key 12 which is axially fixed with respect to either one sleeve, e.g. 3, by occupying the whole length of its way, and axially moved with respect to the other, 2, as by screwing into it a screw 13 the head of which is captive in a slot in the sleeve 2, to cause relative axial movement between the sleeves. Either one or both the sleeves is or are slotted to grip the shaft and part to be secured, or the outer sleeve 3 may be secured by set-screws to, or integral with said part. In the expanding pulley shown pairs of flanges 4, 6 and 5, 7, tied together by bolts 24, 25 and axially movable but non-rotatable on the outer sleeve 3, are adjusted, before tightening the above securing means, by turning a member 33 rotatable on the sleeve 3 and having opposite internal and external screw-threaded connection with members 30, 31 secured to the respective flange-pairs. After adjustment the assembly is clamped to the shaft by tightening the keys 12.
