Abstract

720,017. Belts. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd. July 30, 1952 [Aug. 14, 1951]. No. 19089/51. Class 80 (1). A belt for power transmission or conveyers comprises longitudinally extending hollow strands 3 of reinforcement embedded in a covering of flexible resilient material 1. The strands 3 may be of a low-stretch polymeric material such as nylon or the material known under the registered trade mark as Terylene and the covering may be of vulcanized rubber, balata or polyvinyl chloride. The hollow strands 3 may be separate or connected by web portions 4 with apertures 5 to form a strip material. Further reinforcing elements in the form of textile fabric may be disposed on either or both sides of the strip 3, 4 and more than one strip may be employed. The hollow strands are utilized for. joining the two ends of a length of belting or adjacent ends of separate lengths by means of connecting elements 6 which are inserted into and secured by adhesives to, the corresponding strands of the ends to be joined. These connectors may be of the same material as the strands or different. A small section of belting with elements 6 projecting from each side may be used for connecting the two ends of the belting to be joined.
