Class 132(2) [Also in Group XXXIV] A rubber or like inflatable air-chamber particularly for pneumatic tyres, but applicable also for use in balloons, playing- balls and floats, is formed with indentations of pyramidal or other shape which are so closely arranged that on inflation of the air-chamber at ambient pressure within an inextensible casing only line-contact occurs between the casing and the edges of the base-portions of the indentations and on further inflation, the complete wallstructure of the air-chamber is placed in compression as the walls of the indentations are forced into contact with the casing within the base areas of the indentations. The compression of the chamber wall effects an increase in the wall thicknes and is stated to provide puncture sealing characteristics. The chamber wall may be reinforced with textile or synthetic threads.
