Abstract
718,991. Plate heat-exchangers. PARSONS & CO., Ltd., C. A. June 19, 1952, No. 15432/52. Class 64(3) A heat - exchange element comprises stacked cells each consisting of a flat plate 1 and two upstanding side walls 3 which define a flow channel through the cell and which are of identical shape throughout the element but are reversed in adjacent cells so that inlet and outlet openings. (e.g. 7a, 7b), of one cell are angularly displaced from those, (e.g. 7c, 7d), of an adjacent cell, said flow channel being subdivided into a plurality of smaller channels by means of a corrugated plate 9. In a preferred arrangement,. Fig., 10 (not shown), elements each comprising a plurality of cells are arranged in a gas-air recuperator, hot gas flowing through alternate cells of an element and air to be heated flowing through the re-. maining cells and heat-exchange between the two gases taking place through the plates 1. The shape of the cells in plan may be circular as shown or hexagonal. The cells in an element are initially bolted together and are then united by immersion in a bath of brazing metal.
