Abstract
718,892. Fluid-actuated valves. HEAP, O. H. Dec. 15, 1950 [Sept. 16, 1949], No. 23914/49. Class 135 A control valve in a hydraulic system having a pump and a working cylinder wherein the flow of pressure liquid is reversible therebetween, comprises a housing 1 having limbs 2, 3, connected to the cylinder and the pump respectively and a piston chamber 10. In the limb 2 is a slidable spring-loaded valve sleeve member 4 movable away from the conical end of a valve member 6 carrying a piston 9 to control the flow from pump to cylinder. On flow from cylinder to pump, the valve members 4, 6 initially move together resisted by the pressure of the liquid behind the piston 9 which liquid is expelled through an axial passage 12 and radial ports 12a until the valve member 4 engages a stop 16. The valve member 6 then moves away from the member 4 still resisted by the liquid pressure behind the. piston 9 to open communication between the cylinder and pump. In a modification, the passage 12 may be extended upwardly to the upper end of the valve member 6 and co-operate with a loose ball valve or a spring-loaded stem valve in lieu of the sleeve valve member 4. In a further modification, the limbs 2, 3 may be connected by an auxiliary duct having a spring-loaded valve therein controlling the flow from pump to cylinder.
