Abstract

718,264. Pipe joints. WARD, L.C.B. Feb. 14, 1952 [Nov. 14, 1950], No. 27835/50. Class 99 (1). [Also in Group XXII] A lead pipe is secured to a coupling member 13 by forcing it axially into an annular socket 24 which is so shaped as to flare the pipe end, the walls 17, 22 converging towards the base 25. The outer wall of the socket terminates in a cylindrical bore 26, extending beyond the inner wall 17 and closely fitting the pipe. The interior of the socket is coated with tin or solder and a varnish of resin dissolved in spirit. The'socket is heated after assembly. Additional solder may be supplied through a hole 30. A device to indicate that a suitable temperature has been reached comprises a bead of solder lodged in a recess in the outer wall of the socket.
