<PICT:0717974/IV(c)/1> <PICT:0717974/IV(c)/2> A washing, dry-cleaning or garment dyeing machine of the type in which an inner cylinder having its axis horizontal rotates within an outer cylindrical casing A, comprises a perforated cylinder B to receive the articles being treated, an imperforate cylinder S having a peripheral gap c, or a cylinder (not shown) having a ring or rings of perforations extending over a small part of the length of the cylinder, such cylinder (C) surrounding the perforated cylinder B but being spaced apart therefrom to form an annular space between the two cylinders, perforated lifters 2 carried by the cylinder C and projecting through slots in the cylinder B, and scoops 1, also carried by the cylinder C, co-acting with the lifters 2 to direct the liquid in the lower portion of the casing A to the lifters as the assembly rotates in the outer casing A. A chamber E is arranged at the bottom of the casing A. A weir F at each side of the chamber E and rings F1 attached to the cylinder C retain the liquid in the parts of the casing in which the scoops operate. The cylinders B, C are both secured to end plates D1, D2.
