Abstract
A composition for coating a dyed organic textile consists of (a) 100 parts (by weight) of a benzene-soluble organopolysiloxane having a viscosity of at least 10,000 cs., the polymer having the general formula <FORM:0717638/IV (a)/1> , where n has a value from 1.95 to 2.05 inclusive and each R is a methyl, ethyl or phenyl radical, in the polymer not more than 35 mol. per cent. of the units being phenylsiloxane units, and (b) 20 to 80 parts by weight of a silica filler having a pore volume of at least 3 ccs. per gram and a heat of wetting in hexamethyldisiloxane of 0.1 to 1.8 calories per c.c. of pore volume, with or without (c) 4 to 15 parts of a vulcanizing agent, such as benzoyl peroxide, t-butyl perbenzoate, t-butyl-peracetate or zirconyl nitrate. Fillers specified are fume silicas and silica aerogels. The compositions are applied to the textiles in the form of dispersions in organic solvents such as perchlorethylene, toluene, xylene and chlorinated aromatic hydrocarbons and the coated textiles are then cured by heating, e.g. from 110 DEG to 150 DEG C. for 2 to 10 minutes, to a non-tacky state. Examples are given. Specifications 659,445 and 682,540 and 685,731 are referred to.
