Abstract

A composition of a chlorinated polymer such as chlorinated polythene, and chlorinated polymers and copolymers of vinyl chloride, and an organic polyisocyanate is used as an adhesive. Polyisocyanates specified are ethylene diisocyanate, trimethylene diisocyanate, tetramethylene diisocyanate, hexamethylene-, adipyl-, diphenyl-4-41-, diphenyl methane-4-41-, and naphthalene-, diisocyanates, 4; 41; 411-tricarbimidophenylmethane, and 1 : 3 : 5-tricarbimido-2 ; 4 ; 6-triethylbenzene. Curing aids, fillers, pigments and solvents such as benzene, xylene, toluene, carbon tetrachloride, methylene dichloride, ethylene dichloride, ethyl acetate or butyl acetate may be added. Chlorinated rubber and rubber derivatives may be present.ALSO:A composition of a chlorinated polymer such as chlorinated rubber hydrochloride, chlorinated cyclised rubber and chlorinated rubber, and an organic polyisocyanate is used as an adhesive particularly to bond rubber and neoprene stocks to metals, glass, and phenol formaldehyde unfilled resins. Curing aids, fillers, pigments, benzene, xylene, toluene, carbon tetrachloride, methylene dichloride, ethylene dichloride, ethyl and butyl acetates may be added. Other chlorinated polymers such as chlorinated polyvinyl chloride and chlorinated polyethylene may be present. The rubber sheet is usually first coated with a 15 per cent solution in such as benzene of the rubber stock to be bonded, then dried and the adhesive applied.
