Abstract

716,376. Metal-vapour converters. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and THOMPSON, W. G. March 14, 1952 [March 29, 1951], No. 7322/51. Class 39(1) A seal for a vapour arc converter of the kind comprising coaxial metal rings 7 which surround the anode stem 5 and are united by vitreous material 8 is formed with at least two axial parts 9, 10 having different internal diameters and is connected or associated with a conducting screen 11 extending between the anode stem and the seal so that the screen will assume a potential intermediate those of the ends of the seal. The internal diameter of the screen may be the same as that of the smaller part of the seal. A number of concentric screens may be connected to the seal.
