Class 130 A groove or slot 4 formed in the side of an ash-tray at a slope of approximately 75 degrees to the horizontal is associated with each cigarette-receiving depression 8 formed in the top of the ash-tray, whereby cigarettes toppling out of the depressions 8 either slide down the associated groove 4 or, in the case of slots, fall through the .associated slot into an interior receiving space. In the form shown, the ash-tray consists of a single body member 2 having a saucer-shaped rim 5 at the bottom of the grooves 4, the depressions 8 being narrower than a cigarette at the bottom and having a sharp or roughened outer edge to prevent sliding of a cigarette when it topples out thereof; the sides of the depressions are inclined to one another at an angle of about 65 degrees. An ashreceiving well 9 is formed in the interior of the member 2, which member may comprise a single aluminium casting or may be made of glass, pottery or moulded plastics either in one piece or in several parts. When -the grooves 4 are replaced by slots, the base of the ash-tray is closed to form a chamber below the well 9, into which chamber the cigarettes fall through the slots. The chamber may contain water, and the part 3' is removable along with the well 9 to clean the chamber.
