Abstract

714,054. Cathode materials and processing. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. March 15, 1951 [March 17, 1950], No. 6671/50. Class 39(1) [Also in Group XXXVI] A photo-emissive or photo-conductive device is manufactured by applying a solution of stannous or stannic chloride to a heated transparent carrier so as to form a transparent conductive layer on the carrier and then forming a photo-emissive or photo-conductive layer on the conductive layer. As applied to a photo-cathode, the carrier may be of hard glass which is heated to 550‹C or mica heated to 700‹C and then sprayed with the stannous or stannic chloride solution, the solvent immediately evaporating. Photo-emissive material is then applied; since caesium would attack the conductive layer a protective coating of antimony, silver or bismuth is first applied by vaporization and the protective coating. then activated with caesium. The cathode may be used in image converters or television pick-up tubes. Specifications 604,878, 632,227, 632,256, [Group XI], and 639,561, [Group XXXVI], are referred to.
