Abstract

A lubricating composition for conditioning textiles and rendering them anti-static comprises from 51 to 98 per cent of a refined mineral oil and from 49 to 2 per cent of a mixture containing (a) from 50 to 20 per cent of a non-mineral lubricating compound of formula R [(C2 H4 O)x C2 H4 R1)]y, where R is the residue formed by removal of active hydrogen from aliphatic alcohols, acids, amines or amides containing 12-18 carbon atoms, R1 is R or hydroxyl, x is 0-9 and y is less than 3 and (b) from 50 to 80 per cent of a dispersing agent which is a polyoxyethylene ether of a hexitan partial ester of a fatty acid having 12-18 carbon atoms or a polyoxyethylene ether of a hexitol, the ratios of oxyethyelene groups to fatty acid radicals being 3-8. The non-mineral oil lubricant may be polyoxyethylene derivatives of lauryl and cetyl alcohols, stearic, palmitic and oleic acids, stearyl and lauryl amines and stearoyl and lauroyl amides. The dispersing agent may be polyoxyethylene derivatives of sorbitan monostearate and tristearate, sorbitan mono-oleate and trioleate, mannitan monolaurate and mono-oleate, sorbitan tripalmitate, the tetraoleate, monolaurate or monopalmitate derivatives of polyoxyethylene ethers of sorbitol and the tetralaurate of a polyoxyethylene derivative of mannitol. White oil may be used as the mineral oil. Textiles referred to are yarns of wool, cotton, nylon, cellulose acetate and viscose.ALSO:A lubricating composition comprises from 51 to 98 per cent. of a refined mineral oil and from 49 to 2 per cent. of a mixture containing (a) from 50 to 20 per cent. of a non-mineral lubricating compound of formula R [(C2H4O)x C2H4-R1]y, where R is the residue formed by removal of active hydrogen from aliphatic alcohols, acids, amines or amides containing 12-18 carbon atoms, R1 is R or hydroxyl, x is 0-9 and y is less than 3 and (b) from 50 to 80 per cent. of a dispersing agent which is a polyoxyethylene ester of a hexitan partial ester of a fatty acid having 12-18 carbon atoms or a partial ester of a fatty acid having 12-18 carbon atoms with a polyoxyethylene ester of a hexitol, the ratios of oxyethylene groups to fatty acid radicals being 3-8. The non-mineral oil lubricant may be polyoxyethylene derivatives of lauryl and cetyl alcohols, stearic, palmitic and oleic acids, stearyl and lauryl amines and stearoyl and lauroyl amides.
