Abstract
713,250. Printing processes. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd. Jan. 18, 1952 [Feb. 14, 1951], No. 3545/51. Class 100 (2) In printing from a solid coloured composition containing a polyvinyl compound, a halogenated rubber surface is provided as the print-receiving surface and this surface and/or the composition surface is moistened with a volatile solvent such as cyclohexanone or methyl isobutyl ketone in which both the halogenated rubber and the polyvinyl compound are soluble. Rubber, metal, wood, paper &c. sheets to which polyvinyl compounds will not readily adhere may be provided with the halogenated rubber surface, one method in the case of rubber being by halogenation of the existing surface by treatment with chlorine gas, with a chlorine or bromine solution in carbon tertrachloride, or with mixed solutions of sodium chlorite and an acid. For other surfaces a varnish of halogenated rubber in a volatile solvent may be applied. A varnish of chlorinated rubber in toluene may also be used on rubber, and if the varnish includes a background of white pigment it may be applied after treatment of the rubber surface as above. The printing means may be a roller or block, e.g. of composition as referred to in Specification 713,248 in which the vinyl polymer or co-polymer is or contains the chloride.
