Abstract

712,462. Electric cooking apparatus. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. June 19, 1953 [June 20, 1952], No. 15618/52. Class 39 (3) Cooking apparatus comprising an electric hot-plate assembly has a movable preferably hinged top cover 2 and a rear backplate or control assembly 5 which normally interferes with movement of said top cover, and the control assembly or backplate 5 has a plug and socket electrical connection 6 to the apparatus so that the backplate may be removed as a whole to allow movement of the top cover 2 for access from below to hot-plates 3. The control assembly 5 comprises switches, energy regulators or timing apparatus and normally overlaps part of the top cover, which is hinged at 2a to the rear of the cooker. The control assembly 5 extends the full width of the cooker and is mechanically connected thereto by additional supports, e.g. rigid struts 7 on the cooker engaging sockets formed by straps 8 on the rear of the assembly 5. The plug and socket connection 6 is behind the rear edge of the cooker and may include an earthing plug and socket. The main controls for heating circuits may be on the body of the cooker, and the splash plate 5 may carry a timer, which may be connected to any of a number of heating circuits.
