Abstract

Pentachlorophenol and/or chlorinated cresylic acid is added to cement clinker and the mixture ground to give a homogeneous mass having water repellant properties. 0.5 per cent. only of the phenolic compound may be present, but 1 per cent. is preferred. Dry storage of such a mixture is therefore not essential, and normal hydraulic properties are restored by agitation as in a concrete mixing machine. The addition may be to cement, and cement clinker subsequently added.
