Abstract

712,180. Floors; floor blocks. SMITH, W. H. Sept. 11, 1951 [Sept. 15, 1950], No. 22786/50. Class 20 (4) Floors are formed by assembling hollow tiles having protruding lips 4 along their side edges with the vertical sides of the lips in contact to leave channels 6 between the side faces 5, arranging reinforcing rods 7 in grooves 110 formed in the top surface of the lips, in grooves 10 in the upper surfaces of inserts 9 supported in rebates 8 in the lips, or in grooves 12 in metal bridge members 11 supported from the channels, and filling the channels with concrete. The bridges 11 may be used in addition to or instead of the grooves 10 in inserts 9. As shown the tile has cavities 1 open at one end and closed .at the other, and the lip 4 also extends across the closed end. The inserts 9 may be of nailable material so that battens &c. may be nailed to the underside of the floor. Compression rebates 13, 113 may be formed along the open end of the block so that channels are formed between the open ends of adjacent blocks into which concrete is poured. The bottom 14 of the block may taper from the thickened centre. A tapered recess 114 may be formed in the top of the block at the open end to receive a nailable filling to which floor boards &c. may be fixed. Specification 374,476 is referred to.
