709,565. Lifting slings. LINIKER, T. H. April 2, 1952 [April 2, 1951], No. 7587/51. Class 78 (4) A sling shortener comprises two spaced diverging members 1 and 2 braced by cross pieces 3 and 4 and terminating in a hook 5 at one end and load engaging prongs 8 at the other end. The device is placed against one side of the load and the sling is placed round the load and outside the members 3 and 4. The rope 7 is passed through one end loop 9 of the sling from either below or above, and then the other end loop 6 is connected to the hook 5 thus shortening the length of the sling by nearly half. Alternatively the load engaging prongs may be attached to a cross bar at right angles to which a hook is attached.
