Abstract
709,517. Building units. RICHARDS, H. L. Jan. 28, 1952 [Oct. 27, 1950], No. 26222/50. Class 87 (1). [Also in Group V] A building panel has a core of low density material in the form of blocks 2 of wood, hollow metal, plastic, aerated concrete or foamed slag intersected by ribs 4 of plaster, concrete or bitumastic compound and surrounded by edges 8 of the same material as the ribs. Reinforcement 6, comprising strips of metal which are slotted where they cross one another, is embedded in the ribs. The panel is faced at 12, 13 with the same material as the ribs and this facing is reinforced with layers of hessian 14. The panel may carry a strip 20 round its edge (to which the reinforcement 6 is secured) which also forms part of the side of the mould in which the panel is cast (see Group V) and is of wood, plastic or hollow metal. The edge ribs 8 have a central groove 10 for engaging a jointing strip, a similar groove being shown on the outside of the strips 20. The facings 12, 13 are undercut at 15 so as to provide a key for jointing between adjacent panels. The Provisional Specification mentions that one or both of the facings may be omitted.
