Abstract
708,941. Switchgear structures. REYROLLE & CO., Ltd., A. May 28, 1952 [June 15, 1951], No. 14236/51. Class 38(5) In a cubicle or other walled enclosure B, a live-tank low-oil-conten type circuit-breaker A has an exhaust nozzle D directed into an insulating venting passage leading to the outside of the enclo sure, the nozzle being electrically separated from the passage by an annular air gap. The pas sage may comprise a ceramic pipe E which i: adjustably carried by a metal exhaust elbow F so that its position relatively to the nozzle can be varied. The outlet end of the elbow may be protected by a hood G and may be normally closed by a gravity-loaded pivoted flap H. It is stated that the air gap provides insulation between the pipe and nozzle should the interior of the pipe become contaminated by oil, dust and soot. Also, that cool air would be drawn into the pipe from the enclosure to assist in deionizing the exhaust gases and reduce contamination. The exhaust passage may be upwardly or downwardly inclined.
