Abstract

Drug solutions for percutaneous applications are prepared by dissolving the drug in one or more esters of non-cyclic fatty acids having an unbranched chain containing 7 to 14 carbon atoms, said esters not containing free hydroxyl groups. Specified fatty acids are heptanoic, octanoic, non-anoic, decanoic, undecanoic, dodecanoic, tridecanoic and tetradecanoic acids; derivatives thereof containing alkyl side chains of not more than five carbon atoms, e.g. 2-ethyl-heptanoic acid, 6-butyl-octanoic acid and 8-ethyl-undecanoic acid; unsaturated acids, e.g. undecylenic acid; mixtures of fatty acids, e.g. from natural sources, e.g. coconut oil or synthetic, e.g. oxidation of paraffins. Specified alcohols are mono-hydric alcohols of up to 4 C atoms, e.g. ethanol and butanol; dihydric alcohols, e.g. propylene glycol and trihydric alcohols, e.g. glycerine. The triglycerides are preferred, especially the mixed esters and ester mix-having an unbranched chain of 7 to 11 carbon atoms be larger than the proportion of fatty acids containing 12 to 14 carbon atoms. Specified drugs are fat-soluble vitamins, e.g. vitamin A, hormones, e.g. testosterone propionate, keratolytic substances and antimycotics.
