708,223. Thread - advancing reels. COURTAULDS Ltd. Aug. 20, 1952 [Aug 21, 1951], No. 20876/52. Class 120(2) A thread-advancing reel comprises a shaft 12, at least two reel members 8, 9, rotatably positioned about the shaft, each member having a periphery of longitudinally-extending bars 10, 11 arranged in interdigitating relation, one of -the reel members e.g. 8, rotating about an axis concentric with the axis of the shaft, one of the other members, e.g. 9, rotating about an axis eccentric to the axis of the shaft and to the axis of the member 8, each of the bar members 10 or 11 of at least one of the members 8, 9 having a single transverse groove 28 at the initial threadcontacting end of the reel, the depth of the grooves being about equal to the amount cf eccentricity of the grooved bar reel member 9 extending beyond the periphery of the other reel member 8 for about one-half of the circumference of. the reel. All the bar members are preferably tapered acutely at 30. The grooves 28 determine the thread-take-up point of the reel and are stated to aid the throwing-off of excess treating liquids and minimise the formation of split turns and " ringers."
