Abstract
708,217. Filling bags. CONTINENTAL CAN CO., Inc. July 8, 1952, No. 17136/52. Class 94 (1) A bag filling mechanism comprises a supporting frame, a reciprocable filling spout 14 mounted on said frame, a fixed support member 19 extending into the path of movement of said filling spout and having an aperture therein through which said filling spout can pass, and movable bag top expanding members 21 mounted on said support 19 and extending into the aperture therein, said members 21 being mounted to pivot or swing from a substantially horizontal position to a substantially vertical position into the top of a bag 13 upon engagement of the outer ends thereof with the lower end of said spout 14 as it moves through said aperture whereby to spread the mouth of said bag. The members 21 are of resilient material and are fixed or hinged to the support 19. The bag 13 may be supported by a holder 12 carried by an intermittently moved conveyer 10. Specification 696,454 is referred to as indicating a type of packaging machine in which the bag filling mechanism may be incorporated.
