Abstract

707,588. Supporting and mounting bearings. NEWMAN INDUSTRIES, Ltd., and REDFERN, G. July 21, 1952 [July 27, 1951], No. 17812/51. Class 12(1) A ball or roller bearing B, or a plain bearing bush, may be fitted into a housing H which has not been machined to very accurate limits, by means of a resilient locking piece L which is slightly compressed into position as shown in an axial groove G in the housing. Should relative rotation occur between the bearing and housing the piece L frictionally engages the outer surface of the bearing and exerts a progressively increasing wedging action. The piece L may be of synthetic rubber, or spring steel tightly coiled into a sprins and various shapes of locking pieces and corresponding grooves are described and shown.
