Abstract

705,881. Valves controlled by auxiliary valves. FLIGHT-REFUELLING, Ltd., and WORLIDGE, R. F. Jan. 21, 1953 [Feb. 11, 1952], No. 3588/52. Class 135 A valve of the kind in which a main valve is actuated by the controlled fluid under the control of a pilot valve in such manner that the main valve is opened when the pilot valve is opened and closes when the pilot valve closes comprises an annular valve seat member 10 adapted to be bolted to pipe sections 14, 15 connected in a conduit, a poppet type valve closure member 21, a fluid tight casing 42 mounted coaxial with and in spaced relation to the seat member, a fluid-pressure responsive member such as the resilient metallic bellows 22 of larger effective area than the valve closure member and connected thereto by a stem 20 dividing the casing into two chambers one of which is connected with the outside of the conduit by a passage 43 and the other of which is connected to the upstream side of the valve by a restricted passage 44, and a pilot valve 33 which when open is adapted to connect the second of said chambers with the downstream side of the valve. The pilot valve 33 controls a passage 32 in the main valve stem 20 and is actuated through a spring- pressed sleeve 34 sliding on the stem 20 by a solenoid unit 38. This unit is clamped with one end of a perforated flanged sleeve 24 to the bottom of a cup-shaped member 23 forming one end of the bellows by a threaded sleeve 39. The streamlined casing 42 is mounted on a ring 17 smaller than the seat member 10. The ring 17 is connected to the seat member by a number of inwardly inclined legs 16 and forms a support for a member 19 which guides the valve stem 20 and also forms the other end of the bellows. The leads to the solenoid unit pass through the passage 43.
