Abstract
705,148. Overhead travelling cranes. SOC. FERRAND & FRANTZ. Aug. 29, 1952 [Sept. 1, 1951.], No. 21773/52. Class 78 (4)] In an overhead travelling crane the hoisting carriage is supported as high as possible within the beam which is in the form of a box beam open at the bottom. As shown in Fig. 3 a beam in the form of a lattice girder comprises spaced U beams 3 the lower flanges of which provide runwaysfor the hoisting carriage 9. The U beams are connected by spaced crossmembers 7 and by a flooring 8. Reinforced side plates 5 connect the U beams to tubes 4, so shaped that the depth of the beam is at a maximum at the centre. The hoist has a hook 13 connected by a cable 12 to a winch 11. The carriage has rollers 10 running on the lower flange of the U beams 3. Sliding trolleys 14 may supply electric power. Welded sheet iron members at the ends of the beam enclose gearing and rollers running on elevated side rails for longitudinal movement.
