Abstract

702,422. Cathode-ray tubes. RADIO INDUSTRIE. Dec. 17, 1951 [Feb. 20, 1951], No. 29488/51. Class 39(1) In the manufacture of a television camera tube, a mica sheet 6 coated on one side with a luminescent layer b is deformed by vacuum suction so as to lie closely along the curved end wall 10 of the tube; this wall, which has a coating of transparent enamel, is then heated so that the layer b adheres to it. The tube is similar in construction to that described in Specification 670,875. and is intended for use with non-visible radiation such as X-rays. These impinge on the luminescent layer b to form a visible image, which causes an electron image to be projected from photo-sensitive layer a on the other side of the sheet 6. This sheet is secured round its periphery to the wall 11 of the tube so as to form two separate compartments Ea and E. By evacuating the smaller compartment Ea first, the sheet 6 is deformed into the position required, after which the evacuating stem Q, is sealed off. The sheet 6 may be secured to an inwardly projecting part of the envelope, which part may be flexible, as at 20, Fig. 4, to allow for movement of the sheet during deformation.
