Abstract

701,638. Bottles; special shapes. INJECTTION MOULDING CO. Nov. 17, 1950, No. 28214/50. Class 125 (1) [Also in Group VIII] A hollow body or bottle has a body portion moulded from a plastic with an opening at one end which is closed by an insert fused to the body portion, which is formed with an inset stop on which the insert is seated, the insert being provided with a flange which is spaced from the peripheral wall of the opening ; the body portion and the insert are united by the fused material introduced into the space so formed. As shown, the bottom of a bottle 1 is provided with an opening 7 into which a closure member 10 can be inserted to seat against a shoulder 8. The member 10 has a thickened rim 14 with a depending lip 20. A space 17 is left between the rim 14 and the inner circumferential face of the opening 7. The wall 2 has a depending lip 21 which may be surrounded by a groove 30. Sealing is effected by pressing the lips 20 and 21 against the plane surface of a heater, a sheet of material being interposed to prevent sticking. The material of the lips is melted and fills the space 17, any excess overflowing into the groove 30. Specification 701,639, [Group VIII], is referred to.
