Abstract
Homogenous solutions of polymers or copolymers of acrylonitrile are produced by dispersing the polymer, previously ground to pass a screen of 2,000, preferably 4,000, meshes per cm2, in a solvent at room temperature in a kneading mechanism by adding the polymer in portions to the stirred solvent over a considerable period, for example 1 1/2 to 2 hours, and then transforming the dispersion into a homogenous solution by kneading with gradual heating to approximately 55 DEG C. followed by gradual heating, for example over a period of 2 to 3 hours, to 60 DEG to 70 DEG C., at which temperature the solutions are preferably kept for some further time. The solutions are used in the preparation of acrylonitrile polymer fibres. Specification 638,331 is referred to.
