Abstract

701,188. Reamers; boring- heads. OSBORN & CO., Ltd., S., and BUCKLEY, A. Jan. 4, 1952, No. 353/52. Class 83 (3) A reamer or boring-head comprises cutters 25 mounted to float in a spindle 12 with their ends 29 in engagement with a member 23 of cylindrical or frusto-conical form, the end 29 of each cutter being formed with a cylindrical or conical convex surface, having its axis at the cutting edge of the cutter and parallel to that of the member 23. If the member 23 is conical, it may be displaced to adjust the cutting diameter of the cutters by turning screwed sleeves 33, 34 which co-operate with a scale on the spindle. The sleeves engage a cross-pin 30 received in slots 31 in the spindle and engaging a plug 17 that supports a pin 18 on which the member 23 is mounted between bearings 20, 21. The cutters are held against the member 23 by a spring 26 that passes through holes 28 in the cutters.
