Abstract
700,964. Operating friction clutches. ETABLISSEMENTS COLLINS & TOURNADRE. March 24, 1952, No. 7560/52. Class 80 (2) The pressure on the friction elements of a slipping clutch is regulable by a mechanism an element of which is locked to a fixed member when the clutch is engaged but may be unlocked therefrom to disengage the clutch. In the embodiment shown the plates 6, 7 of a friction clutch which connects a constant speed input shaft 2 to a lower speed driven shaft 3 are pressed together by : a spring 16 acting through a thrust bearing 12. A nut member 17 abuts one end of the spring 16 and may be screwed along a sleeve 27 to adjust the compression of the spring by means of a handwheel 23 connected by gear wheels 24, 25, 22, to a gear wheel 19 slidably keyed at 18 to the nut 17. The sleeve 27 is slidably keyed at 28 to a portion 15 of the casing 1 and is maintained in the clutchengaged position shown by means of balls 30 passing through holes 29 in the sleeve into depressions 31 in the portion 15. To disengage the clutch a collar 34 is moved until depressions 35 therein receive the balls, 30 and allow the member 27 to slide axially on the portion 15. A cup member 13 is slidably keyed at 14 to the portion 15 and is screwed at 20 to the wheel 19.
