Abstract
700,940. Treating sewage; gravity-separation apparatus. HARTLEY, C. J. June 27, 1952 [June 28, 1951], No. 15324/51. Class 111 Settled matter is scraped by echelon blades 27, 28, Fig. 2, to a channel 11 midway between the centre and periphery of a centralfeed circular settling tank 10. Blades 31, Fig. 3, fitting closely in the channel 11 propel the settled matter to a sump or to diametrically-opposite sumps 34, whence it may be led to a common receiver 38 (not shown), at the tank periphery and equidistant from the sumps, by pipes 37. The blades may alternatively be spiral or otherwise curved as shown at 29 in Fig. 3. A third sump 34a, Fig. 2, may be provided in the channel 11, and in line with the tank centre and the common receiver. Where only one sump is provided the receiver is arranged at the periphery of the tank at the point nearest the sump. The tank bottom is continued across the top of the sumps (10a, Fig. 2) leaving a slot 36 of about the same width as the channel 11.
