[Also in Group XXXVI] Testing equipment to detect flaws in magnetic material comprises a bar 10 of magnetic material carrying an energizing coil 11 and pole-pieces 12 each comprising 36 rods 26a partly received rubber block 30. The rods 26a are of square section and they are by a housing also accommodating a arranged to form a square sectioned pole-core 26 to slide (en masse) in and out of the housing. The outward travel of the polecore 26 is restricted by three piano wires 28 passing through slots 27 formed by registering channels in abutting surfaces of the rods. The ends of the wires 28 are soldered in ferrules 29 by the side plates 25c of the housing.
