Abstract
700,501. Knock-down boxes. RICHARDSON G. S. June 22, 1950 [March 22, 1949], No. 4749/49. Class 18. A knock-down box has tray-like base and lid members, and side and end members flanged on their vertical edges, the box being held erect by bolts passing through holes in the members. In one embodiment, Fig. 1, the sides and ends have joggled plates 22 attached to them to form channels for the reception of the base and lid flanges. Bolts 15 pass through the base and lid flanges and engage screwed bosses 19 attached to the side members. In an alternative embodiment (not shown) the bolts pass through the side members and screw into bosses attached to the base and lid. In a further embodiment Figs. 5, 6, angle members 23 are fitted on two opposite sides of the base and lid to form, with the adjacent flanges 11<SP>1</SP>, channels for the reception of the side members. Bolts 27, carried by spring plates 28 pass through the members 23, flanges 11<SP>1</SP> the vertical flanges of the ends, and the sides, and are secured by being turned to engage elements 26, plates such as 22, Fig. 1, may be fitted in addition. In all embodiments. the sides and ends are packed between the base and lid when the case is collapsed. Packing may be inserted in the channels formed by the plates 22 with the sides and ends, to ensure tight joints.
