[Also in Group XI] An electric grill 8 is mounted so that it can be pivoted up from a vertical stowed position to a horizontal grilling position where it is automatically locked by a spring catch 28. The grill may be an independent unit or may be pivoted between side uprights 9 of a gas or electric cooker. The grill may be coupled by a link 37 and pin and slot 40, 39 to a hinged shelf which is automatically pivoted down to dish-supporting position where the grill is raised to grilling position. When the grill is lowered to vertical stowed position the shelf pivots up also to stowed position alongside. Such pivoting up may also be used to switch on current to the heating coils 11. The grill coils 11 are mounted in grooves 12 in a refractory backing 13 or a reflecting backing supported in a cover 17 provided with trunnions in the brackets 9. One trunnion 16 is a tube through which pass the conductors to an electric switch 18. A fuse is provided. The grill is locked in the horizontal position when a disc 30 on the trunnion 16 is rotated to such a position that the catch 28 can drop' into the radial slot extensions 31 of an arcuate slot 29, Fig. 5. To pivot the grill down to vertical position the bell crank 27 is thumbpressed to pull 28 out of 31 to allow pivoting down. The rotary switch 18 is prevented from being switched on while the grill is in stowed position by the same catch 28 which, located in a slot 35 of a disc 34 on an extension shaft 33 of the switch, thereby holds the switch shaft against rotation. When the switch is on, the grill cannot be lowered to stowed position since the disc 34 holds the catch up into the outer part of the slot 31 thus preventing pivoting down. Fig. 6 shows an additional safety breaker in which contacts 45 rotating with the disc 30 make contact with switch contacts 46 only when the grill has been pivoted into grilling position.
