Abstract

699,110. Delivery stopping arrangements for textile spinning frames. SAUNDERS, E. F., and DRYSDALE, D. Jan. 19, 1951 [Feb. 3, 1950], No. 1526/51. Classes 120(i), 120 (ii) and 120 (iii) A delivery stop motion for a spinning frame including separate detecting means for each spindle responsive to broken ends and separate interrupting means for each roving located in front of the drawing rollers has each detecting means provided with a sensing member and an associated member carrying a further movable member engaged by either the sensing member or the associated member when an end breaks, either of the last two members being subjected to periodic reciprocatory movements. In one form of apparatus, a detector wire 66 is pivoted on pedestals 65 fixed to a plate 58 pivoted at 57 for movement within a box 51 under the influence of bellows for raising the plate and a spring 60 for lowering the plate. Mechanism is arranged to supply the bellows with air intermittently so that the detector wire 66 is periodically moved forwards towards the yarn R<SP>1</SP>. When yarn is present, the contacting portion of the detector wire 66 is drawn downwardly so that the rear end is raised above the end 80 of a lever 78. When yarn is not present, the rear end of the detector wire 66 slides along the top of the box 51 until it hooks upon the end. 80 and the continued forward movement of the wire 66 under the influence of the bellows draws the lever 78 forwards until it closes a switch 87 to operate the roving interrupting device and a switch 95 to light a signal lamp 96. As an alternative indicating device a buzzer may be employed. Closure of the switch 87 energizes a solenoid 150 to remove an arm 149 from a detent 147 on a riser 142 urged upwardly by a spring 144. Upon being released, the riser 142 lifts a cutter bar 130 provided with a serrated edge 131 and a shelf 133 to hold broken ends of roving. The cutter bar 130 is located.on the delivery side of a trumpet 40 immediately in front of the drawing rollers. Other forms of cutting device described include upwardly and downwardly swinging pivoted cutter bars. The cutter bars may be actuated by pneumatic means. Instead of a detector member actuated by pneumatic means, the feeler may be cam operated to swing forwards against the yarn. The feeler member may be adjusted to press upon the yarn with different pressures depending on whether a single or double roving is being spun, so that if one component of a double roving breaks the yarn being spun will be broken by the feeler member.
